This morning, the Putnam County SPCA had the opportunity to provide Humane Education to all of the students of Matthew Patterson Elementary School.

Approximately 470 children participated in the presentation. We thank Principal Jennifer Darling and the staff of the school for having us. It's always crucial to educate children about animal cruelty and empathy towards animals. Look for more humane education at local schools coming soon!

This morning, the Putnam County SPCA had the opportunity to provide Humane Education to all of the students of Kent Elementary School.

Over 380 children participated in the presentation. We thank Principal John Fratto and the staff of the school for having us. We look forward to proving this crucial foundation in understanding animal cruelty and the manners in which it presents itself to the rest of the district soon.

We had a great time participating in the Northern Westchester/Putnam Saint Patrick’s Parade today in Mahopac! We thank all of the supporters who cheered us on. Special thanks to @sanctuarytrainingcenter for allowing us to set up a fundraising table in front of their gym!

On March 4th, the Putnam County SPCA traveled to Albany to participate in the New York State Animal Protection Federation Advocacy Day. This is an annual event where animal organizations come together and discuss upcoming bills with their local senate and assembly members.

We thank New York State Assemblyman Matt Slater, New York State Assemblywoman Dana Levenberg, and New York State Senator Pete Harckham for taking time out of their schedules to meet with us.

From the Putnam County Health Department:

Attention Putnam Residents! Bring your dogs, cats, and ferrets to a FREE rabies vaccination clinic on Saturday, March 22nd from 10am-12pm.

Sponsored by the Putnam County Department of Health, the clinic is being held at Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park (Upper Park), 201 Gipsy Trail Road, Carmel, and is open to all Putnam County residents.

Please bring a photo ID as proof of Putnam County residency, as well as proof of prior rabies vaccination. Tags are not acceptable. If you do not have proof of prior rabies vaccination, your pet will receive a one-year rabies vaccine.

Pets must be at least 12 weeks old. All dogs must be leashed and controlled. Any dog that may become aggressive must be muzzled. Cats and ferrets must be in carriers, top-loading carriers preferred, no harnesses.

All animals must be supervised by an adult. For the comfort and safety of the animals, social distancing and bringing a minimum number of people are suggested.

We are only two months into 2025, and we've been able to provide Humane Education to over 500 students in the Mahopac School District. In March we will be visiting Kent Elementary, Kent Primary, and Matthew Patterson. We are also working on visiting Haldane Elementary this spring as well.

We have reached out to all schools and districts in the county and are hoping to make contact with those not listed yet.
